Reserve grade competitive

Monday 4 April 2011 | Published in Regional

While the Takuvaine premier grade club collected easy points from a default win against Ngatangiia on Saturday – Avatiu made hard work of their 62-46 win against Arorangi and Titikaveka adapted well with the absence of top player and defender Luciana Matenga to beat a valiant Tupapa side 58-47.

Equally competitive and fun games were seen in the reserve grade dominated by ex premier grade and national players and a sprinkling of up and coming netball stars.

In the Takuvaine and Ngatangiia reserve grade match – a player commented that between the two teams, they probably had the oldest legs in the competition but there was certainly plenty of agility and action on court.

Ngatangiia goal shooter Shona Lynch displayed impressive long range shooting skills from the top of the circle supported by goal attacked Lyn Shepherd.

But when the ball missed its target – Takuvaine defenders Sebon Nicholas and Kura Lusby pounced on the ball sending it on it way to shooters Lesley Katoa and Jocelyn Koteka who both showed plenty of finesse under the goal.

Takuvaine won the game 56-37.

In the junior grade – Titikaveka edged out Tupapa in the under 15 division 18-17 while Arorangi managed to dominate Avatiu and win 18-12 and the game between Takuvaine and Ngatangiia ended in a 12-all tie.

In the junior open division – Tupapa were comprehensive winners over Titikaveka 40-29 while a tight match was seen in the Avatiu and Arorangi match with Avatiu proving too strong for Arorangi winning 41-27.

Games this week start on Wednesday at the Telecom Sports Arena where the open 1 and 2 grades will play along with the masters and corporate mixed division.
