The Puaikura-Titikaveka cricket squad are the champions of the 2011 Turtles Domestic League competition.

The team made up of cricketers from the Titikaveka Titans and Arorangi cricket clubs won three of their four games against the Ngatangiia-Matavera and Te Au O Tonga squads.

Team captain and Telecom high performance squad member Pare Rongokea puts his team’s success down to playing for one another and taking care of the basics.

“It’s the simple things like catching and stopping the ball that is in my mind very important to achieving success out on the pitch.”

Puaikura-Titikaveka had a shaky start to the competition when they lost their first match but they quickly turned things around on their home turf with two well deserved wins.

Last Saturday’s win sealed the teams champion title taking home the Turtles D League trophy.

Young Aitutaki sensation Daniel Tutai and opening strike bowler Ben Sexton were second and third top wicket takers respectively in the competition with six each.

Opening batsman and vice captain Rob Samuel was the third top run scorer with 77 runs.

With the Telecom national men’s squad to be named soon, you can be assured that Puaikura-Titikaveka will be well represented with around six current Telecom HP squad members in the team.

Puaikura-Titikaveka would like to say meitaki maata to major sponsors of the competition Turtles for the new and improved uniforms, their families and supporters, and to Cook Islands Cricket for all their help in running another successful Turtles D League Competition.
