At the Rarotonga Sailing Club, last month, the Vice Commodore Dave Read presented the trophies for two Sunburst class sailing regattas.

The highly prized Gould Trophy and the sought after Bergman Trophy were both raced for in very difficult, often strength sapping, sailing conditions and amid fierce competition from sailors of all ages .

Some “raggedy” sails did not deter the eventual winner, veteran Rick Hickling, from taking the double due to his experience and cunning.

Those present at the award ceremony were in general agreement that recent personal coaching by Marie Melvin had no doubt made the difference for the winner who was last seen hobbling off home to bed.
