Mitiaro boys are storming

The Club Raro Stormers men’s sevens team will be hoping ‘beginners luck’ will be on their side when they take to the field during the Sevens in Heaven.

The squad is made up of players with Mitiaro blood and they are all under the age of 25.

The humble side know they are to face some tough competition during the three-day competition – but that’s the challenge they are looking forward to.

Some of the players have had a taste of international sevens having played in the tournament in past years under the Mitiaro Flying Eels banner.

This year they are flying the banner of their sponsor Club Raro although they will still play with the Mitiaro heat and intensity.

Team coach Travel Tou Jnr says that the team’s main aim is to give the young players in their side exposure and get them to rub shoulders with some of the international stars that will be at the tournament.

Over the past few weeks the team has been working on their fitness and when CI News met up with the team at one of their training – they didn’t have a rugby ball for the photo shoot.

And not wanting to pass up the opportunity to promote their team and especially their innovativeness the team found a coconut in place of a rugby ball.

Sevens in Heaven contenders will need to watch out for this young side that will be innovative on and off the field in what they like to call – itiki styles!
