The Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Committee (CISNOC) will be hosting a four-day sports medicine workshop starting on Monday August 9 at the AOG hall in Takuvaine.

The workshop is for all national sports federations to expand their knowledge on sports medicine including preparing athletes for events, effectively managing injuries sustained on the field of play.

The workshop also aims to establish a better working relationship with medical providers on the island with sports as a tool for creating a healthy society.

The programme director is George Paniani, chairman of the Cook Islands Medical and Anti-doping Commission.

Experts who will conduct various aspects of the course include Chris Milne (chairman of the Oceania National Olympic Committee medical commission), physio David Zuger and local nutritionist Karen Tairea.

The four-day course will also touch on other topics including managing obesity, nutrition and exercise, keeping drugs out of sport, up-skilling and empowering sport, athletes, youth and community groups and the prevention and managing of sports injuries.

The workshop will run in two sessions daily with the morning course starting at 8 o’clock right through to 2pm and the afternoon sessions will start at 4.30pm and run through to 9.30pm
