Masters athletes ready for action

Masters athletes across the island have been hitting the tracks for last minute training ahead of the Cook Islands Masters Championships starting on Saturday.

The national event, which will also include some athletes from New Zealand, will be run over three days.

Saturday’s opening day programme will start at 4.30pm with the triple jump event and hammer throws.

Events will run up to 6.30pm when the final 60m dash will be raced.

On Monday the programme will start at 5pm with the high jump, shot put and hurdles.

The final event on Monday will start at 6.15pm and this will be the 200m sprint.

On Tuesday, which is Gospel Day, the programme will start at 3pm with the long jump and discus throw.

The final event of the day and championships will be the exciting 4x100m sprints scheduled for 5.15pm

The age divisions for both men and women are from 35 years and up in 5 year splits.

So if you fell like blasting out those cobwebs – register for the championships with David Lobb and get amongst it.

There is a small $10 entry fee for all masters’ athletes.
