Happy school memories

It is with shock and great sadness that we hear of the passing of Sir Geoffrey.

I, and others at Wanganui Collegiate School, had the great pleasure and privilege of enjoying the company of Sir Geoffrey in the 1950s whence my happy memories of playing on the wing ‘outside’ Sir Geoffrey at centre for WCS First XV rugby for two seasons where Sir Geoffrey often displayed his deft side-step to create that illusive gap (or half gap) for me or others to score ‘in the corner’!

And there are many similar happy memories.

During more recent years many ‘old school’ friends, as I have, have enjoyed with great appreciation, Sir Geoffrey’s, his family and friends generous heart warming welcomes and hospitalities in Rarotonga. Always vibrant, his ever-present energetic persona never lost that wonderful organising, entertaining and hosting skill – and always with that deft side-step ‘in the wings’ for us to enjoy.

We send our sincere condolences to Lady Henry and her family at this sad and difficult time.

It has been a great privilege and pleasure to have known Sir Geoffrey.
