New friendships formed on the rugby field as golden oldies players enjoyed two days of games on Rarotonga.

Four teams, two visiting and two local, took part in the Golden Oldies tournament held on Saturday and yesterday where there were plenty of hooting, good natured sledging and big hits at the Avatiu field.

DB Millhillians from Wairarapa fielded some young golden oldies players while the Central Coast side from New South Wales in Australia included some Cook Islanders who enjoyed returning home to rug shoulders with their brothers from the Avatiu-Nikao Mongoose and Sons of Takitumu side.

The visitors certainly enjoyed playing against some of the islands celebrities including former deputy prime minister Sir Terepai Maoate and Tongareva MP Wilkie Rasmussen.

The tournament wrapped up last night with a number of the visitors staying on to enjoy the island atmosphere for a few more days.
