As teams eased themselves back into rugby sevens mode at the weekend, the teams that really showed their cards were the Avatiu Eels and the Tupapa Panthers.

Players that showed good form on the first of four weeks of rugby sevens were Panthers speedster Conrad Piri and NPC player Francis Smith.

For the Avatiu Eels stand out players were Duane Gukisuva, Joe Hoeflich and Clive Nicholas.

Atiu Warriors Ben Maaka and Gero Toki were the stand outs in the outer island team while Maara Ioakopa was the Dragons play maker and Eddie Nicholas was the danger man for the Takuvaine Reds.

With this weekends tournament being the quarters, semis and finals to be played on Saturday at the Avatiu field all teams are sure to be at full-strength.

It was also great to see Atiu island fielding a Raro-based team in this tournament as all teams start shuffling in preparation for the marquee tournament the Cook Islands International Sevens In Heaven tournament to be held from November 3 to 7.

The 4-week CITC Rarotonga Club sevens is the best form of training to prepare the teams for the tournament.

Week one full results Reds 12 vs Cowboys 5, Dragons 12 vs Atiu 12, Eels 28 vs Bulls10, Panthers 19 vs Reds 5, Dragons 10 vs Bulls 14, Eels 26 vs Atiu 12
