The cycle race around the island this Saturday is the first event of the annual Kumete Sports day which will be held on Monday, Queens birthday.

You dont have to be a gun cyclist or have all the bells and whistles on your bike to join the race.

All you need is village pride and plenty of enthusiasm.

The race starts at 3.30pm and you will need to be at the start line of the race opposite the Raviz Indian restaurant at 3pm to register to represent your village and prepare for the big race.

All bikers and bikes are welcome as long as they are not electronically or mechanically enhanced. Battery powered bikes cannot enter.

If you want to race on one of these banned bikes, you will not receive any points for your village.

The only rule of the race is good sportsmanship.

The Kumete Sports athletic day event will be run on Monday at the BCI Stadium starting at 9am.

Athletic events will be run in the open men and women, master men and women (35 and over), under 9 boys and girls and under 14 boys and girls divisions.

Track and field events include high jump, 100m sprints, discus, 3000m race, 200m sprints, long jump, shot put, 1500m race, 60m dash, 800m, javelin, 100m relay and the ever popular tug-o-war.

The days event is expected to wrap up around 2.30pm so get out to the BCI Stadium and show your village pride.
