Fabio Menta, a professional volleyball coach from Italy, arrived in the country yesterday to help with the development of the sport.

Menta said he is well aware of the challenges he faces in coming to the Cook Islands and acknowledges that coaching volleyball in the Cooks will be very different from what he is used to, but he accepts that in anything we do there must be a starting point.

“A Chinese Philosopher from 650 BC, Lao Tzu, used to say, ‘A trip of a thousand miles, starts with a step!’” Menta said.

While he will initially be in the Cook Islands for three months, CIVA are exploring the possibilities of a long term arrangement to ensure Menta can return and work with Cook Islands Volleyball on a five-year development plan, which will include the outer islands.
