Call to sports medics

People interested in learning more about first aid on the sports fields and sports medicine are being encouraged to attend a meeting tomorrow night organised by the Sports Medicine Association.

The association, a brain-child of sports therapist Janice Clook, aims to train up a number of sports medics in the Cook Islands. Clook said the meeting tonight was four years in the making and would be a step in the right direction to providing potential medics with health education, first aid skills, information on how to properly record details of injuries and other similar skills. She said the meeting was ultimately aimed at ensuring that sports players can stay healthy and active and keep playing sports.

Clook is encouraging people who usually find themselves on the sidelines of sporting matchers, rather than on the field, to join the meeting.

“It’s more about the health than the sports,” she said.

The meeting is being held tonight from 5pm at the Aquarius Hotel in Panama. For more information, contact Janice Clook on 28833 or 56476.
