The Avatiu Eels, Arorangi Bears and Ngatangiia Sea Eagles premier league teams registered comprehensive wins at the weekend – further establishing their status as the leaders of the current tournament.

At the Swamp on Friday – the visiting Aitutaki Sharks were slaughtered 66-10 by hosts the Avatiu Eels.

The difference for the Eels was the return of playmaker Bobby Hansen who played a hand in just about all 12 tries scored by the Eels.

The Sharks looked strong in the first half with two quick tries before the half time giving Sharks supporters hope of a fight in the second half.

But the Sharks were definitely missing their playmakers Mau George and Loni Vanilla.

With the Eels leading 22-10 into the second half, nothing could stop the confident side from running up the tries.

And while most of the Sharks gave up on the game partway into the second half – some maintained their intensity but it wasn’t enough to contain the Eels from smashing through.

Eels tries came via Damien Heather, Silafi Tovio, a solo effort by Bilsy Gukisuva, Lui Nicholas, Joe Hoeflich in the corner, Mathew Pierre with two, Johnny George and Terii Aberahama with two tries.

Out at Raemaru Park, the Warriors suffered at the hands of the Bears who commanded the game from start to end to win the match 54-0.

The Bulldogs tried hard but it wasn’t enough to dispose of the Sea Eagles who have so far this season put on a consistent and strong performance every week to put them at the top of the leader board with the Bears and Eels.

The Sea Eagles won the match 32-18.
