Avarua Primary School pupils continue to show why they were the 2009 schools soccer champions after the boys and girls teams won their games on Wednesday.

Newcomers the Titikaveka-Papaaroa girls surprised the Avarua girls by scoring in the opening five minutes but the defending champs proved too strong for Titikaveka-Papaaroa winning 5-1. There were no surprises in the Avarua boys game as they showed their skill and field work to out-gun the Titikaveka-Papaaroa boys team.

In other games, Nikao girls proved to be a challenge for Arorangi with the latter attacking but unable to put the ball at the back of the net, the game ending in a 2-all draw.

In the boys match, Nikao suffered a heavy defeat against Arorangi who showed skill and class to win their game 11-1.

Avatea School took to the field after a bye in the first round itching to play and went straight to win their first game against Te Uki Ou-Imanuela 4-1. Te Uki Ou-Imanuela lacked that shine from the first round but did not go without sneaking a goal in the dying minutes of the match. - CIFA
