Some slick and classy sevens rugby action was seen in day one of the 2010 Sevens in Heaven tournament yesterday afternoon at the BCI Stadium – and you can guarantee more of the same today and tomorrow.

The stadium grounds sizzled with the hot action as teams showed their skills, tricks and speed.

The women warriors were the first to take to the field – the Hastings Rugby and Napier Tech faced off in the first battle of the afternoon.

Hastings ran away with the win 24-4 before local women’s team T&M Crushers lived up to their name with a 31-5 crushing of the Waitakere Nesians.

The College Rifles went on a try scoring rampage against the young Avatiu Motor Centre Eels to register a whopping 50 points against the Eels who struggled to put any points on the table.

After the women softened up the pitch, the men came out to play.

The Fijian Tabusoro managed to clip the wings of the Flying Dragons to win their first match 26-10 before three one-sided games were played.

The star-studded Razorbacks tore up the outer island team from Aitutaki 29-0 and the College Rifles men proved that it wasn’t just their women that could play, registering a 29-0 win against Ara Wheke.

Tama Toa United had a scrappy start against the Arorangi Cowboys but they quickly regained their composure to win 29-0.

The focus then turned to the crowd for the first spectator’s dash for cash before the second round of women’s games and continuation of pool play in the men’s division.

Things are only going to get hotter on the field today – so be sure to get to the BCI Stadium for today’s action starting at 1.19pm with two women’s games.
