The Ngakau Toa Vaka (NTV) Canoeing Club will be holding its junior open day today at Nikao beach (across from First Windows).
The open day starting at 2pm is aimed for children between the ages of 8 and 15 year olds.
Long-time paddler Vaea Melvin will be leading the event and is excited to help the children try out oe vaka.
“Our club is looking to recruit more juniors to paddling, so we hope they come down to give it a go,” said Club secretary April Revake.
The participants are not required to have any prior experience in paddling. Interest in the sport is the only prerequisite for this junior open day.
The participants are also encouraged to bring towel, hat, water bottle and dry change of clothes.
“Come down to our NTV junior open day to get a taste of our junior programme that covers swimming, K1 and oe vaka paddling. You don’t need to have any experience – our team is on hand to guide and help with technique. See you there!”
