The construction of the new Pukapuka hospital is well underway with plaster coating and work on the ceiling undertaken this week.

The foundation of the project started on June 8 by contract builder Ripa (Kainana) and three of his labourers brought to the island from Rarotonga.

In the second week, the bricks were laid for the entire building.

Top plates, rafters, the veranda and the roof were completed last week.

An island resident said four qualified students from the Pukapuka Cook Islands Tertiary Training Institute worked with the team, and government employers had also volunteered on the project.
