LETTERS: The health versus wealth trade-off

Letters for Monday November 8, 2021

Dear Editor,

I think it’s sad that it has come to this however the government is doing the best it can at this time.

I have a child who is not 12 yet so will wait till then although who knows what tomorrow will bring?

For those that think they know better from reading media, etc., try being a PM and see if you can do better otherwise just adhere to rules and regulations, simple really.

Really? First, you prove that fully vaccinated people can’t catch Covid or transmit it to others! Secondly, you prove that the jab is legally approved and legally safe for adults, let alone our little babies! Thirdly, where are your legally required data to the open public for any adverse reactions, so that people can be fully informed and not be propagandised with constant one-sided stories? Otherwise, you guys (Government and Media) are clearly discriminating!

Editor’s note: According to PolitiFact, the award-winning fact-checking website that rates the accuracy of claims by elected officials and others on its Truth-O-Meter, vaccinated people with breakthrough infections can also spread the disease. But most people who get Covid-19 are unvaccinated, and fully vaccinated people who are infected are less likely to suffer a serious illness. Studies show that vaccinated people are eight times less likely to be infected and 25 times less likely to be hospitalized or die from Covid-19 than unvaccinated people, according to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).

Too many of you are complaining … don’t go on Google, that’s why you gone out of space. Simple, stay there if you can’t afford your flight to Cook Islands or go elsewhere. Our Government doing their best.

I suggest the country should wait till everything is ok before giving the all clear to open the border. NZ govt will let us know when to open. No rush.

Remember it’s not us only. Our cuzzies in Tahiti has been hard hit (by Covid) and others too in the Pacific region. We Kukis have managed to remain free of Covid and we want to remain free from it. We are all in this boat and let’s hope it stays this way. Once it hits us, kaput and its history.

God save the Queen, God save the people in all ways of life, God save all the Cook Islanders. Cheers all.

Men’s health

Let’s start educating our children and laying the foundation on good nutrition/healthy diet and staying active.

The normal trend for a lot of our men is to stop training once our sporting days are over. This has a flow on effect, as our kids are continuing the bad habits and then end up doing the same thing. “What they see at home is what they do.”

I hope we get this sorted before we start losing our people at an even younger age due to bad health conditions that could have been prevented.
