Five maritime division police and one frontline officer have recently completed a two-week open water diving course, alongside marine resources staff.
Police spokesman Trevor Pitt said the crew of the vessel Te Kukupa now has a contingent of six certified divers.
“This is a great asset for the division for the variety of work they may be required to do at sea.
“Search and Rescue being one such role, and open water training.”
The officers who completed the training are Sergeant Apolo Miria, Sgt Pakuu Poila, Acting Sgt Joe Napa, Acting Sgt Colin Matangaro, Constable Rio Kavana and trainee Const Ataela Ataela.
