Joseph Wachter charged with cultivation of cannabis and possession of a utensil appeared in the Criminal Court at Avarua on Thursday last week.

The court heard the last time Wachter appeared in court, he dismissed his lawyer. On Thursday Wachter asked for a month-long adjournment to give him time to get a new lawyer. 

Justice of the Peace, Vania Kenning said the matter will not be adjourned further.

“We will be expecting to proceed at the next hearing,” the JP said and adjourned the matter to July 21.

Watcher was arrested on October 29 last year in Arorangi. More than 30 cannabis plants were seized by police.


Driving under the influence

Davendra Kumar pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol in the Criminal Court at Avarua on Thursday.

The summary of facts said on May 7 on the back road at Takuvaine, Kumar crashed his car and fled the scene. A person who witnessed the crash brought him back to the scene where he was unsteady on his feet.

“He verbally was apologetic and apologised for fleeing the scene,” police said.

Justice of the Peace, Vania Kenning who oversaw the matter disqualified Kumar for driving for 12 months, imposed a fine of $200 for driving under the influence and an additional $50 fine for court costs.

For careless driving Kumar was fined $50 and an additional $50 in court costs.
