Local Fijians’ condolences
Fijan expat worker AMIT KUMAR, 28 passed away in Rarotonga. 20013137

Fijian community vice president Savenaca Tukitoba expressed his condolences to both families of the deceased.

Tukitoba said while they welcomed the government’s plans to reduce the breath alcohol limit and enforce compulsory helmets, it was a tragedy that another son of Fiji had to be victim before such a plan was enforced.

“It is a tragedy, we lose another son here in the Cook Islands, sadly of the fact that we are far away from home.”

Tukitoba said this was a lesson not only to the expatriate workers, but for everyone to take precaution while using the road.

“For us Fijians, it is always expensive and sad when we go back as cargo, so please let us try to look after each other.

“If it comes down to sleeping in another’s house or hiding the keys then so be it, we can save lives.”
