Conditions were perfect on Saturday for the Annual BSP Team Triathlon held at the Tikioki Tri Site.

Twelve teams of three people each lined up in a beautifully calm lagoon for the start of the 200-metre swim.

The teams had organised themselves to either have all three members complete the whole triathlon once, or to have a swimmer, a cyclist and a runner complete one discipline three times.

The swim leg was short and fast, with top swimmers Seychelle Carter and Maya Postrzygacz setting an amazing pace in the first leg.

Onto the 8-kilometre bike leg where the top cyclists Roland Neururer, Jason Moorfield and Jacob Postrzygacz pushed strongly and the overcast conditions with little wind were favourable for all, especially those who were completing their first triathlon.

“The runners would have preferred a little breeze and conditions on the 2km loop were very hot, especially up on the back road, however this did not deter our athletes and particularly Clay Haxton, Maya P and Pip Hanson who all recorded very fast run splits,” Cook Islands Triathlon said.

“As always there were a number of strong performances, and congratulations go to our winners and all competitors.”

The overall winners (in all disciplines) were 3 P’s made of Maya, Olivia and Edmund Postrzygacz. In the individual disciplines – Nemo, The Old Man and a Bottle of Wine (Seychelle Carter, Roland Neururer, Clay Haxton) managed the top prize.

CITAI were delighted for all the competitors who had an immensely fun afternoon, with some achieving personal best times and others competing in their first competition.

“Grateful thanks is extended to the Raina Family for use of the site and Enua Manea Hall, to the generous sponsors BSP and The Bond Store, as well as all the volunteers who gave their time to assist with timing, marshalling, registrations, etc.”
