Cook Islands Touch Association has confirmed that its annual Vodafone Boxing Day Mixed Touch Rugby Tournament will be held on December 26 at the Ngatangiia field.

Athletes who recently returned from the Pacific Games are welcome to share their learning experience by entering teams in the competitive category and showing their skills for all to see.

Touch rugby president Julieanne Westrupp said they will have two categories this year for both the “serious and those that just want to chill and relax with the oval ball”.

“We will have the competitive and then the social category.  Fees are $150 and it is a mixed competition.”

Westrupp said teams can register up to 16 players but can only play up to 14 players per game.

She explained that a mixed team consists of three men and three women on the field at any time.

“You are allowed to have more women but you must have at least one male on the field at any given time.”

Westrupp said that in the past they have seen families come and have a day of fun, especially after enjoying the Christmas food and drink.

She said depending on the number of teams they receive; games could commence earlier in the morning or at midday.

Westrupp would like to thank her executives for a successful year as it has been busy, especially with the Pacific Games in Honiara.

She would also like to thank the management team that took their athletes to the Solomon Islands.

“Our athletes were able to get the game time required to become better players.

“A huge thanks to Vodafone Cook Islands and Bank of Cook Islands for the ongoing support in terms of sponsorship.

“Have a safe and merry Xmas and see you on the 7m line,” she added.

Registrations are now open and families and friends are welcome to take advantage of this day – a day of fun for all.

For those wanting to register a team, you can call Westrupp on mobile +682 55055 or Rima Browne +682 57605.

Registrations close on Wednesday, December 20, no teams will be accepted after this. This is to allow management to prepare a draw, said Westrupp.
