Eleven teams have signed up for the first Cook Island Squash tournament of the year in the BSP Business House competition starting this evening (Thursday) at the TSA course in Nikao starting at 4.30pm.

Squash has another packed year of competitions for both beginner and regular players and have started the year by beefing up the organising committee with new energy.

Leading the local squash club again this year is president Tutu Inamata ably supported by vice president Achaal Pardesi with both men also to lead their respective business house teams in the Vodafone Hotspots and BSP Trick Shots.

In fact, team BSP are fancying their chances of taking out the competition generously sponsored by their Bank South Pacific company – no pressure team BSP Trick Shots!

The organisers thank BSP bank for their awesome support of squash.

Two new committee members, Michelle Foster and Catharine Ben, are the club’s new captains, and will both lead a team in the business house competition with Foster leading a team of newcomers from the BCI (Bank of Cook Islands) while Ben has a strong Young Gunz team.

Club secretary Matariki Wilson joins the Checkmates team made up of regular squash players while club financial officer Emilie Pierce has gathered a few financial minds for her team Paporo Akaparu.

They will no doubt get some stiff financial competition from Team Treasury, the Freestylers are no doubt set to live up to their name.

Top ranked female squash player Anita Boaza leads the CITC Sharkies crew while tennis star Brett Baudinet along with lawyer Heniz Matysik are in team You Got Served – we shall see.

Team KPMG are for sure the bravest team of all so far with just one graded player in Jioji Konusi leading his team of newcomers that are sure to show some hidden talents!

All supporters are welcome to head to the TSA squash courts to cheer on your friends and teams and for those wanting to give squash a go – committee members will be on hand to show you the way.

Otherwise for more squash info and weekly draw – check out the Cook Islands Squash Facebook page or write to squashcookislands@gmail.com for court booking or refresher introduction sessions.

The squash club is also running a membership drive deal for the month of March – sign up as a new member for $30 a month and drag along a buddy – you both get the month membership for $50.

Touch base with the members of the squash committee today and they will be happy to sign you up and getting you into the squashing fun!
