After a dismal performance in the Rarotonga football Round Cup competition, Titikaveka women’s side made a strong comeback to win the Knockout Cup title on Saturday.

Titikaveka defeated arch rivals Tupapa Maraerenga 5-4 in the showdown decided on penalty shootout at the CIFA Complex in Matavera.

Club president Moeroa Tamangaro hailed the players and team management for winning the title. Titikaveka last won a major football title four years ago.

“We are really happy and excited with the win. I think we finished fourth or fifth in the Round Cup and to come back and win the Knockout Cup is a great outcome and the girls deserve all credit,” Tamangaro said.

“When we started the season, some girls left and we can’t stop anyone but others stepped up and in the last few rounds they performed really well to finish strong in the competition.

“I would also like to thank our coach Tavake Manuel and his assistant Matakeu, and the players and our supporters including parents.”

Titikaveka FA will be holding their prize giving ceremony a week before the start of the new academic year in 2023.
