Defending champions Titikaveka survived a tit-for-tat battle in the feature premier division match against Avatiu over the weekend.

The match of the week in the Rarotonga Netball Club Competition lived up to the expectations as arch rivals Avatiu and Titikaveka battled tooth and nail on Saturday.

In the end, the visitors laced with some experienced players and coached by former Silver Fern Margaret Matenga prevailed beating the Sebon Will-coached youthful Avatiu side 53-50.

Avatiu won in all the other grades except six and under, beating Titikaveka 48-27 in reserves, 30-13 in Open 1, 20-18 in Open 2, 38-13 in 15 and under, 48-7 in 12U, 14-0 in 10U and default win in 8U. In 6U, Titikaveka prevailed 4-3.

Netball Cook Islands secretary Tekura Moeka’a said: “The match of the week did not disappoint with a close encounter between Avatiu and Titikaveka Prems. Avatiu and Ngatangiia/Matavera almost had a clean sweep of all grades. The Tupapa and TKV (Takuvaine) fixture was a more levelled.”

“Clubs are always looking for volunteers to assist with the bench officials and umpiring. If you are available and keen, go down to your local club and lend a helping hand. It is not too late to join a club. Clubs train Tuesdays and Thursdays so go along.”
