Netball Cook Islands (NCI) executive board member Jason Lindsay has been appointed to the Strategic Development Fund Panel for World Netball members.

Lindsay, thrilled to have been appointed to the panel, received the news last month.

He has been a sports enthusiast from a young age and holds the positions of secretary – Cook Islands Athletes Commission, vice president development – Netball Cook Islands, executive board member – Oceania Bowls Board Panel Member and now a member of the Strategic Development Fund Panel – World Netball.

Lindsay also works for Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Committee (CISNOC) as administration manager and executive assistant to the Secretary General.

“I love being a voice for those who may be too shy to speak up and I love to see plans come to fruition and the effects those have on our federation,” said Lindsay.

Sports have always been a major part of his life. Participating from a young age in Auckland, New Zealand through to adulthood, Lindsay says he grew a passion for sports management and governance when he was first appointed to a bowls board at a club.

“To see the benefits of having good policies in place and being able to see a sport go from one point to a growth point gives me such a kick,” he said.

“Being able to meet everyone at the events and see athletes, coaches and managers grow within themselves is something I enjoy the most about being in sports governance.

“I have my eyes set on making it to an international board and this is a great stepping stone to that.”

Speaking of his international appointment, Lindsay said he was thrilled to have been appointed to this panel.

“To be recognised by an organisation at a world level and be appointed to this panel is testament to the experiences I have gained at a governance level over the last few years.

“It’s exciting times for Netball Cook Islands as I’m also vice president of development for Netball Cook Islands.

“This gives us more opportunity to bring our governance levels of NCI to a point where we can apply directly to World Netball for funding.

“Having that step in the door of World Netball highlights us as a country.”

Lindsay joins five other panellists from New Zealand, Australia, England, Scotland, and Barbados in reviewing funding applications submitted by World Netball members.
