In support of Autism Cook Islands’ biggest fundraising event, 1000 participants are expected to join the 2023 Air New Zealand Te Kara Run, kicking off this afternoon.

Yesterday, the 800 registration packs for the popular 3.2-kilometre fun run/walk event sold out, where participants are covered in colour at several stations along the course.

Kat Jensen, Autism’s programme manager, stated that all proceeds will be directed towards Autism Cook Islands programmes and initiatives, including Lego therapy, swimming, badminton, a one-on-one reading programme, an art programme, communication core board sessions, and workshops.

Over 50 families involving 26 children are currently enrolled in their programmes.

“We can’t thank our community enough for always getting behind our initiatives and coming out in full force to support ACI,” Jensen said. Te Kara Run will begin and end at Constitution Park (Terevete Park) with a warm-up at 4.30pm led by the Tamure fitness group, followed by the official run start at 5pm sharp
