The classrooms at Apii Nikao were splattered with colour yesterday afternoon as year 5 and 6 students experimented with fabric paint and coloured dyes to create their very own tie dye t-shirts.

With the end of a busy term one approaching, students were more than excited to finish their school week getting their hands dirty and mixing bright colours with the end result of a custom-made creation of their own.

This term the students’ work has centred on the theme ‘Me, Myself, and I’, where students have been able to create posters, artwork and different projects with regards to themselves and their families, their background, their belongings, and all the special things that make up who they are.

Year 6 student Ella Matheson has had a terrific term at school with her friends and was eager to share all the things she had learned.

“We have been doing projects about ourselves and hanging them up in the classroom, and writing about different things that are special to us. I helped my teacher find different YouTube videos about tie dying,” she said proudly.

Mrs Ua Savage, who led the Year 5’s and 6’s yesterday, is looking forward to the two-week break.

“This has definitely been a long but very rewarding term,” she said smiling.
