Letter: Taps run wild

Perhaps To Tatou Vai (TTV) management is so busy that they’ve not read the comments in letters to this newspaper about the unrelenting wastage of treated drinking water by some of our farmers.

TTV continues to tell our young fundraiser not to wash cars and our resorts not to top up swimming pools when the water flowing into some farms 24/7 could wash every car and fill every pool (from empty) every day. These are the farms where taps and pipes are opened and just left to run with no management at all.

One thing, however, we can complement TTV field workers on is their honesty when a member of the public invites them out to see such waste. The workers are quick to point out that it would do no good to shut down the water to certain irresponsible growers, because they have an uncle or other family member who holds title as a Minister of the Crown and the Minister would be on the phone within the hour telling TTV to turn the water back on and to butt out.
