Letter: Raising age misses the mark

Dear Editor, Parliament to raise smoking age to 21 so that children as young as six years old won’t be vaping. Raise the age to 99 and it won’t prevent one child from having access to tobacco, one of the deadliest drugs on earth.

How much money did our brilliant law enforcers spend chartering a flight to Aitutaki to raid the plantations of adults growing weed for other adults, how much did the taxpayers spend in the Criminal Court and how much are we paying, today, to keep these young entrepreneurs locked up?
Put that kind of money into finding the persons that assist children to have access to tobacco, find the culprits, and lock them up.
Will Parliament and law enforcers do the right thing or is the tax revenue from the drug tobacco just too tempting to be siphoned off for the never ending waste that defines the public service?
