Letter: Potholes

Earlier this week, the writer and spouse were travelling anti-clockwise through Puaikura at dusk and, just before the new asphalt roadway gifted to Tinomana Ariki by the ever-generous Chris Vaile of Triad, two tourists on a motor scooter, in the fading light of the day, tried to swerve to miss one of the uncountable potholes.

The tourists were not quick enough, hit the hole, the rear tire blew and the driver was either skilled or lucky and somehow avoided a fall. How many times a day are our visitors, who we say we care about, endangered by the absolute failure of ICI (Infrastructure Cook Islands) to carry out what most would regard as a pretty simple job? The one they hit was small compared to the many that would hold a bag of taro.

So, our government is going to monitor events kilometres under the sea to assure that environment is not raped, but we can’t fill potholes?
