Letter: Friday Night Christmas dinner and fundraiser

Not everyone goes out at night to boogie and brawl! The smarter ones, the older generation does it all in style! And it is not an all-out boozing party like the excuses some of our friends give not to attend. Most of us don’t drink! Alcohol and non-alcohol drinks are available.

We are cool, older and can be described as “oldies who are smoothies with the mosties!” We love to dance, tango, twist, rock, chachacha, waltz and show the new generation a thing or two.

This all happens on Friday evening at 6pm on the 1st of December 2023.

The Former Tereora College Students Inc. are holding a Christmas Dinner Fundraiser evening at the Islander Hotel otherwise named by us for the evening as the Hollywood Boulevard Hotel.

There will be a buffet dinner with exotic food to tempt the strictest diet freaks.  We will grant forgiveness to those who break the eating rules.

Dinner starts at 7pm and the top Tereora College Culture Dance Team will start at 8pm.  They will perform until exhausted.  The best band on the island will play for the night with music from the past, present and future.

Spin the wheel raffle draws will be held.  Prizes include weekend stays in luxury hotels, free flights to the outer islands, pot plants and your stock for your Xmas bar.

Admission is $50 a ticket, $30 for your dinner and $20 for the Former Tereora College Inc. Funds.  Most tickets are sold, some will be available at the door.

Many have asked what the funds are for? This incorporated charitable association will spend the funds to help current students at Tereora with scholarships, prize giving, books and equipment.

The funds will assist older students in need, provide wheelchairs, walkies, tokotoko (walking sticks), funeral matters especially wreaths. We would like to establish a large wooden Roll of Honour for all past students up to the present, together with teachers like those at the RSA. It will not be quick like the speed of light, but that is our aim and objective, enshrined in our constitution.

That apart, let’s dance the night away next Friday night 1 December 2023. Travel through memory lane and enjoy yourselves. You will be assisted to your tables by our executive committee members.  Look forward to seeing you all!

The Executive Committee of the Former Tereora College Inc
