Letter: ‘Don’t diss our uniforms’

Dear Editor, To the letter writer who criticised the beautiful uniforms of our youth teams at the 7th Youth Commonwealth Games in Trinidad and Tobago.

You obviously have no sense of Cook Islands fashion, and you probably wear ugly holey leg

warmers out and about.

Our flagbearers looked stunning in their beautiful TAV’s sunny yellow uniforms and Lanihei looked absolutely gorgeous.

Why don’t you focus on their fantastic sporting achievements so far and show them some respect.

You sound like a crabby outdated grump who has no idea of what our island fashion is about. Keep your leg warmers to yourself, who even uses those here.

To our youth representatives at the Commonwealth Youth Games, keep your heads up. We are proud of you.

Ah, the tracksuit trousers - quite the “unique” design, I must admit! But fear not, amidst the trouser tales, we were undoubtedly the pinnacle of opening Games fashion. Also aside from the tracksuit trousers, the rest of the uniform items received high praise and have transformed us into the epitome of sartorial elegance. A standing ovation to our stylish ensemble!

As for the forthcoming Pacific Games team uniforms, there’s no doubt that they will maintain our esteemed tradition of looking absolutely amazing. We assure you that our athletes won’t be caught in a wardrobe warp across the ages come November. Our Pacific Games athletes will be sporting a delightful and contemporary look!
