The journey of Ponu, the miracle turtle, to Rarotonga has been such an inspiring story that Discover Marine and Wildlife Eco Centre boss Stephenie Jansen felt she had to write a book about it.

Jansen will officially read a copy of the recently published book to the children who will be attending the launch of “Ponu’s Journey” at the Centre at 1pm.

Jansen said: “Ponu’s story was such an inspirational story. I wanted to share it. It’s written from Ponu’s perspective.”

During the book launch, there will be a conch blowing and kids colouring contest.

Jansen’s team will also offer free ice creams for all children who go through the centre.

Discovered floating near death in 2019, little turtle Ponu was nursed back to health by volunteers. The turtle was rescued and had about more than 18 months of care at the Discover Marine and Wildlife Eco Centre at Arorangi

The turtle was initially in the care of Josh Utanga of Snorkel Cook Islands and later looked after at the Marine Centre.
