Twenty-four (24) students were bestowed with the honour to lead the student body at Tereora College Student Leaders Investiture on Friday last week at the Princess Anne Hall.

The national college of the Cook Islands has a roll number of 740 students this year.

In her welcoming address, Tereora College principal Teremoana Ngaau said the prefect’s investiture was a very special day as the parents and school gathered together to congratulate their new student leaders for the year.

“You represent our student body and we are proud of each and every one of you,” said Ngaau.

“As the national college we would like our leaders to strive to make things better.

“Who will make decisions that will benefit our students, and not just themselves.

“We know that the Student Leaders sitting before us on this stage will be up to the task of leading our student body.”

Ngaau acknowledged that some challenging times may pop up for the head leaders and that there will be times when decisions that will have to be made will not be popular.

“Leadership is about taking responsibility and being accountable for decisions that you are a part of,” said Ngaau.

“We wish each of you every success in making a positive difference in our college and in the lives of those around you.”

Orometua, Teava Nanai conducted the prayers and blessings for the occasion, which was attended by former principal Tania Morgan, who is now the director of the Cook Islands Tertiary and Training Institute (CITTI), Ministry of Education’s Sanjinita Sunish, and Tereora Parent Teacher Association (PTA) chair Tepaeru Herrmann.
