Airport Authority Cook Islands has come on board to support the four national cultural events over the next two years.

The events are Te Mire Ura, Te Maeva Nui, Te Mire Tiare and the upcoming Te Mire Atu.

The Authority confirmed their financial support for these events after signing the official partnership with Tauranga Vananga Ministry of Cultural Development this week.

Airport Authority chief executive officer Nikau Tangaroa says the Cook Islands culture is an essential part of who we are and therefore moving forward they will be adopting a key value which is “the Cook Islands way”.

“We are very excited to be working alongside the Ministry of Culture in delivering and sharing who we are, the language we speak, the traditions we observe and the values we uphold.”

Secretary of Cultural Development Anthony Turua welcomed Tangaroa and his team on board for the first time in this capacity.

With the Airport Authority Cook Islands in the process of organising their own national milestone – the 50th anniversary of the Rarotonga Airport in January 2024 – Turua said that without a doubt Tauranga Vananga will be right there beside them carrying the baton.

With Te Mire Atu only weeks away (to be held on March 16), and with limited tickets on sale, both parties encourage all who have yet to secure their tickets to get in quick as they are selling fast.

Tickets are available from The Edgewater Resort and Spa reception or the National Library.
