A blue truck is reported of have fled the scene after a power pole was taken out next door to the Love Café in Matavera late Wednesday evening.

Police said a crash was reported about 10.52pm on Wednesday.

Spokesman Trevor Pitt said a blue truck was involved but “it took off”.

“A witness was not able to get a plate number.  

“However, the vehicle must be extensively damaged so someone or other will know who it is,” Pitt said.

“This is the second one this month as another driver demolished half of a fence at Turangi and also took off leaving extensive damage behind.”  

Contractors were on the ground attending to the mess through Thursday.
