Police are investigating two motor vehicle crashes reported over the weekend. According to police spokesman Trevor Pitt, three drivers were taken to prison after being breathalysed over the legal limit for alcohol, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

One, a female, had been involved in a crash on the main road near Punanga Nui Market. The other two were stopped by Traffic Police.

“All were arrested and escorted to Arorangi, and are expected to appear in court this coming Thursday. One further person was forbidden from driving.”

On Sunday police attended to second motor vehicle crash at Aroko.

Police have ruled out alcohol as a factor in the cause of yesterday’s crash.

“The incident is still pending as Police finalise investigating the state of the vehicle and the driver’s account of the crash.”

The incident in which a truck crashed into a power pole was reported around 8am. Police officers helped the driver out of the truck.

“He told them (police) he’d been working last night (Saturday) and was on the way home. Steering issue with the truck but Police have not verified that as yet.”
