A family has reached out to the Rarotonga community seeking more information about an alleged incident at the Nikao Social Centre.

The alleged incident was an attack on an elderly father, where two females were accused of beating the man.

The family reached out to the community, asking anyone who saw the incident, to contact the police or themselves.

Police media officer Trevor Pitt told Cook Islands News the assault had been reported and police were investigating.

Pitt said details were still sketchy, but police were looking into the matter, and the actions of the two females who were reportedly intoxicated.

While the matter is under investigation, the family said they are humbled, as their father puts the incident down to being at the wrong place, at the wrong time.

“We as a family are thankful for all the messages of support and sympathy for our dad and it is a testament to his upstanding character in the community.”

Meanwhile, in other matters, police have sought blood analysis from a female driver who crashed into a power pole at Inave, Arorangi on Sunday.

Pitt said the 73-year-old female driver crashed into a power pole bringing down the overhead cable.

He said the crash was called in at 1.21pm and the driver was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

He said Te Aponga was on hand to rectify the power cable.

The rental car was moved off the road by Cook Islands General Transport (CIGT).
