A man was taken into custody late Thursday night following a blaze which engulfed a car on Rarotonga.

Authorities were called to a Pue address just before 11pm following a complaint about a house disturbance.

Police arrived at the scene to find a car ablaze at the property.

Firefighters were already on the scene containing the blaze.

Police spokesman Trevor Pitt said a man was subsequently questioned and placed in remand “for safety reasons”.

Pitt said the man was released from custody on Friday while Police compete their investigations.

Airport Rescue Fire chief officer Breamnt Kea said one pump truck was called to the scene about 11pm.

A crew of four used a high pressure hose connected to tank on the truck, to get the blaze under control in five minutes.

They extinguished the blaze about 11.30pm with no injuries reported.

They arrived back at the station about 11.55pm and inquiries are ongoing.
