JP asks for more details around power pole costs

A Justice of the Peace has asked Te Aponga Uira (TAU) to provide a further breakdown of costs for a power pole in relation to a careless driving charge.

Ravineel Kaushik Sami appeared in the Criminal Court on Thursday, charged with careless driving on October 15, after he drove a truck into a power pole in Matavera.

He entered a guilty plea.

Police said about 11.40am on that day he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a power pole.

Police sought $150 reparation for a blood test and $4270 for the power pole.

Justice of the Peace John Whitta asked if the relevant paperwork was available for the damages.

Police said yes.

The matter was adjourned.

When the matter was recalled, JP Whitta said the full paperwork was not available and told the defendant he would receive a copy of the costs for the power pole.

The defendant was told to surrender his passport and the matter was adjourned to February 28.
