Even in paradise petty crime occurs and all paddlers and supporters on the island for Vaka Eiva are encouraged to keep property and valuables safely locked away. Most incidents of theft are done by opportunists who take advantage of people who dont keep an eye on their belongings so keep a hold of your bags and purses or stow them safely in a safe at your accommodation.
Riding around the island with paddles in hand and the wind blowing through your hair is one of the many charms about the island but there are still road rules.
Before you drive make sure you have a Cook Islands drivers licence, observe the speed limits and remember its 40km on the open road if you are not wearing a helmet. There is a zero tolerance for drink driving, and nudity may or may not be allowed.
