The unbeaten Titikaveka premier side has extended its lead in the Rarotonga Netball Club competition after another hard-fought win on Saturday.

The side defeated Tupapa 45-35 at Victoria courts. Titikaveka also won the reserves grade clash beating Tupapa 45-26.

Tupapa claimed the Open 1 and Open 2 matches 32-6 and 16-9, respectively.

Netball Cook Islands secretary Tekura Moeka’a said the round one games will conclude this week with Ngatangiia/Matavera hosting Takuvaine, Arorangi taking on Titikaveka at home and Avatiu playing Tupapa.

Moeka’a said Titikaveka premiers, Takuvaine Open 2, Arorangi 12 and under and Avatiu 15U remain unbeaten in the competition.

Takuvaine prems registered their first win over a young Arorangi side on Saturday. The Happy Valley side defeated Arorangi 59-50.

“Monica Wichman, the stand out player for Takuvaine, playing defence last season turned shooter in the 2022 season potting 99 per cent of the shooting for Takuvaine and with shooting stats at 90 per cent,” Moeka’a said.

“On the other shooting circle end, the experienced national rep Elena Mataroa was instrumental in leading her young attacking team. Causing havoc and disallowing goals or passes in the circle were defenders Richelle Gempton and Christina Areai from Takuvaine.

“It has been fantastic days of netball over the past four weeks with clubs and supporters turning up and turning out each game day.”

Meanwhile Netball Cook Islands will be having a Run-a-Thon this Saturday. All the proceeds will go towards the Cook Islands national squad for the World Cup Qualifiers in Fiji in July this year.

Clubs and supporters have been tasked with collecting donations alongside their Run-a-Thon sheets. Each sheet has $1 to $20 options of donations. Any donation will be much appreciated. The current long list of Cook Islands national team based in Rarotonga will be taking part in the Run-a-Thon.
