Showdown at Muri

With Muri and Arorangi cricket clubs on equal points and set to face one another in the last game of the Rarotonga Round Robin Championship today – the match will effectively be a final as the winner will be champions.

It’s a game too close to call as Muri’s consistent form and Arorangi shifting things up a gear makes it hard to separate the two teams.

After today’s final round robin matches, the eight clubs will be split into two pools made up of the top four and bottom four teams.

The two pools will then play a round robin competition with the top two teams to play off for the grand finals of their pool with the bottom two to play off for 3rd and 4th in the pool.

Currently Muri, Arorangi and Turangi are already in the top four pool.

Massive pressure will be on the shoulders of the Tupapa 1 and Matavera teams today as one of these two teams will take the final top four spot depending on the outcome of their games.

Tupapa 1, currently in 4th place by a slim margin, will meet Takuvaine today while Matavera will host Avatiu-Nikao.

Matavera will need to smash Avatiu-Nikao out of the park and up their net run rate if they are to squeeze Tupapa 1 out of that all precious 4th spot.

But yet to register a win and with nothing to lose, Avatiu-Nikao just might pull off their first win of the season against a desperate Matavera.

The Muri field will see the battle of the titans between Muri and Arorangi while Turangi will host Tupapa 2.
