The official Rarotonga Golf Club Season has now ended with Royle Brogan and Maara Kenning emerging as senior mens and ladies club champions for 2011.

The battle to become club champion is always a tough one because, basically, players have to hold their form for the seven weeks of the competition first of all in qualifying and then through the knock-out rounds, finishing with 36 holes on the final day.

It is often stamina that decides the eventual winners there were several matches where the leader after 18 holes was not the eventual winner.

Champions in the other divisions are as follows: intermediate men Joe Daniel, intermediate ladies Rita Howard, junior A men John Teiti, junior ladies Mii Tangitamaiti, junior B men Tingika Elikana, and vets Pape Aviu.

The season came to a climax with the second semi-annual prizegiving at which winners of all tournaments for the second half of the year were honoured and received their prizes.

Also recognised for their achievement throughout the year were Tukai Engu and Rita Howard, who were the most improved mens and ladies players.

It was pleasing to see most of the prize winners present at the evening as well as many of their supports and other members of the club.

A great night was had by all with the kaikai, band and dance group.

With the ending of the official golf season, that doesnt mean that there is no more golf for the year. On the contrary, the course will be busier than ever because business house golf has stated again on Thursdays and Fridays.

Mens and ladies classic pairs start this Saturday and the normal vets competition is still on Tuesdays. Chicken Run has shifted to Wednesdays and there is still a club sweep every Saturday.

Id like to take this opportunity to wish all members very best wishes for the festive season. Thank you all for your support of the Rarotonga Golf Club throughout the year.
