Cook Islands sailors Aquila Tatira from Aitutaki and Taua Elisa from the northern group have represented the country well at the recent Australia Laser Championships in Brisbane.

In his first season of sailing the laser radial class Tatira posted impressive results finishing up the race in the silver fleet in sixth place out of 48 sailors.

Elisa sailed in the open mens division and placed 23rd overall in a fleet of 44.

Awesome sailing in this regatta, learned a lot of skills so we are happy with our performances, commented Elisa on the Sailing Cook Islands Facebook page.

Elisa now replaces his sailing hat with a coaching one as he guides Tatira through his next regatta the Australia Youth Nationals.

He (Tatira) is ready to fire and looking forward to another week of the battle field. The pair will be based at the Royal Queensland Yacht Club for the next week before they join the rest of the sailing crew in New Zealand where they will compete in a number of regattas across Aotearoa.
