The Cook Islands under 20 women’s soccer team faced New Zealand yesterday with a draw against Tonga under their belt.
The team, currently competing in the Oceania Under 20 Women’s Championship Qualifer in Auckland, matched Tonga in skills and fitness.
Both teams created a number of goal scoring opportunities with the Cook Islands scoring first in the 16th minute of the match via the boot of striker Regina Mustonen.
The Cooks managed to keep Tonga at bay throughout the match and were ready to take the win – but Tonga had other plans when they equalised in the 72nd minute of the match to end the match in a 1-all draw.
The local team played their second match against competition favourites New Zealand yesterday.
