A 30-year-old man fled the scene of a crash early on Sunday and was subsequently tracked down and charged with drink driving.

The motorcyclist was involved in a non-injury crash about 8.30am in Vaimaanga.

The incident was reported to police who found him and took him in for processing about 10am.

He was breathalysed and recorded a reading of 930 micrograms per litre of breath.

He was then remanded in custody.

Police spokesman Trevor Pitt said Rarotonga’s driving record continued its abysmal path last weekend with at least two drivers heading to disqualification status, thanks to excess alcohol consumption.

Police also confiscated the keys off three other people, during the weekend.

Another motorist, a 56-year-old man, was arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning and was remanded into custody after failing a breathalyser test.

He was tested at 550mcg/L.

The man was bailed to appear in court this week.
