Local fisherman Kevin Selam landed a hefty 241.3kg marlin on Thursday afternoon.

He is pictured with his son Keanui, who was just as excited as his dad.

Fishing solo aboard his small 16 foot aluminium vessel, it took more than an hour for Selam to finally reel the marlin in close enough to head to shore.

Good friend, Pauro Arnold also steered out to assist tow dragging the large marlin onto land.

The marlin was weighed at the Cook Islands Game Fishing Club with weighmaster Kirk Denison at hand.

Clearly the size of the boat does not matter, as last year Selam impressively landed a whopping marlin that weighed in over 300 kg, on board the same boat – Miss Tutonga.
